Grammy nominated Christian singer Lauren Daigle is the “it” woman of the moment and with good reason — she’s an amazingly talented artist. Lauren appeared on a recent episode of the Ellen DeGeneres Show to perform her hit song “Still Rolling Stones” and Ellen is clearly a fan, referring to Lauren as “amazing” before she performed.

Afterwards, Ellen joined Lauren on stage, giving her a hug and remarking, “so good” and even taking a little credit for Lauren’s success because Ellen was an American Idol judge when Lauren was on the series.

Despite the amazing performance, Lauren came under fire for appearing on Ellen’s show, with many taking to social media to note that she shouldn’t have appeared on the show because Ellen is a lesbian.

Lauren responded to the criticism, telling WAY-FM Radio: “I think the second we start drawing lines around which people are able to be approached and which aren’t, we’ve already completely missed the heart of God.”

She continued, humbly: “I don’t have all the answers in life and I’m definitely not gonna act like I do, but the one thing that I know for sure is I can’t choose who I’m supposed to be kind to and who I’m supposed to show love to and who I’m not, because that’s the mission right? Be who Christ was to everyone.”

Further, she told the Christian Post why she chooses to share the Gospel in a more mainstream way, noting: “I think the passage that says, ‘Go out into the world and draw people unto Him,’ the Great Commission, that’s what I think about in regard to the mainstream aspect.”

She added: “I wasn’t looking at [making my music] as in mainstream versus Christian. I was like, ‘OK, what is the purest version of me? Or what is the purest thing that God has written into my spirit and how do I express that? How do I communicate that?”

Plenty of commenters responded to Lauren’s post about her upcoming Ellen appearance with hatred and criticism, but others provided a voice of reason. One person noted: “Folks, seriously. Y’all need to pray for the people commenting here that they disapprove of this. Lauren sings of God’s love. If you aren’t okay with her doing that on one of the most popular daytime TV shows watched by millions, check your heart. You don’t have to watch. I will.”

Another person remarked: “Hearing all of these ‘Christians’ refer to Ellen as the darkness is hilarious. I cannot believe how self righteous these people sound… I am embarrassed as a Christian and understand why so many people are turned away from Jesus.”

One commenter brought up this excellent point for the haters: “For all of you with issues about this, do you protest like this when a Christian artist sings or makes an appearance on The Today Show or GMA or the same types of shows?… We’re not supposed to lock ourselves in a room of like minded people and judge others through the window. We’re supposed show others God’s love and proclaim the gospel to the ends of the earth. Remember that thing in the Bible about “loving others”?? That applies to EVERYONE without exception… not just those that think like you.”
